When the Eurasian Union invaded Xinjiang in 2075, no one expected that there would be much, if any, retaliation. The Chinas all vowed revenge, but were far too busy with their internecine struggles to bother with a distant, ungovernable province. The inhabitants thought it was worth defending, though, and their arsenal included the calamitous Skyblanket nanoswarm. Skyblanket was massively successful against the Union, but its creators soon discovered that they had no control over it. As those scientists who had fought the development of geoengineering technology were vindicated, mankind fled from the advancing ice into caves or the domed cities. Now we live in the terrible world that our ancestors chose - but it's not so bad.
